August 16, 2016. That was the day I was invited to an event that would change my life forever.
Now, before I share the moment I decided to start my business, let me just say that I officially started my business with paperwork and a domain name in 2011. However, I was working full-time gig and I wasn’t clear on my vision. I knew there was more to my life than the 9-5 I was showing up to everyday.
Okay. So, fast forward to June 2016. I had applied to attend a conference with a BIG company. In order to attend you had to apply for an invitation and hope you were chosen to participate in the event. I submitted my request and waited. We were supposed to be notified – either way – the first week of July. But when I went back to the website to check for confirmation, there was a posting that read: “Due to an overwhelming response, more time was needed to review applications.” Therefore, causing notifications to be moved back another week.
So of course I waited exactly 7 more days (which felt like 70) and needless to say, I practically peed my pants when I got the email extending to me an invitation to the conference I was hoping to attend. I felt an excitement that I hadn’t felt before. I knew this encounter was meant to be. I made preparations to fly cross country for a 1-day event. I know, that sounds crazy but I knew it was my destiny.
When I arrived at the conference it was the most empowering moment I’ve experienced as an entrepreneur. There was only a couple hundred of us. Women. Business Owners. Of all different races, ages, backgrounds and business models. There were newbies like me and women who had made millions.
I spent the entire day soaking up all the information I could.
When I got back to my hotel room I was so excited I couldn’t sleep. Up until this point, the vision for my business was blurry and out of focus. But that day it became crystal clear. I began to work on bringing both, my passion and knowledge of business to fruition.
This is me the morning after the conference. Even though I barely slept the night before (from pure excitement), I woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to make some moves.
As they say, the rest is history. I’ve successfully cultivated my physical products business into a full-time labor of love that has afforded me to create a business and life I love.
Now tell me about you. If you’re reading this as an entrepreneur, Describe the moment you decided to start your business.
If you’re not a business owner, don’t shy away from the question. Tell me of a time you decided to take a leap of faith. I want to hear from you!
And remember….plant inspiration, & harvest happiness!
