Tip 1

No Snooze.

Get up. Get up. Get up! Choose a time to get and up tell yourself, that the snooze button is not an option.

Let me start by saying: I LOVE SLEEP.  In fact, I CANNOT function without it.  With that being said, I was hitting the snooze button multiple times only to get up when time had run out and I was on the verge of being late.  I started getting to bed at a decent time and setting my alarm.  Those two things help tremendously. The first week was a little tough, but months later I roll out of bed ready to tackle my day.

Tip 2

Stretch.

Doing this first thing in the morning has several health benefits, including muscle and joint flexibility, stress relief, and improved circulation.

This really helps me to get my blood flowing.  It serves as a cue to my body: Shake the sleepiness off, it’s time to start my day.

Tip 3

Hydrate.

About 60% of your body is made up of water, and after sleeping for 7-8 hours without water, your parched body is practically begging to be replenished. Appease it!

There are so many awesome benefits to drinking water.  Some like it room temp, others (like myself) enjoy it ice cold.  Whatever your pleasure, make sure to make this part of your morning routine. You don’t want to start the day  in a deficit.

Tip 4

Breakfast kick starts your metabolism.

Breakfast is indeed the foundation to a solid day of nutritional value.  On the days I have breakfast, I always feel charged and fueled for my day. Especially when I ‘ve had a breakfast that was balanced and nutritious. I have been guilty of only having a cup of coffee with no breakfast only to find that by mid- morning I’ve hit a wall. The coffee has worn off so I start to feel sluggish, my stomach starts to growl (which is a no-no if I’ m in a meeting) and I find my self starving which leads to unhealthy food choices for lunch. Breakfast is a must!

Tip 5

Wake up with music.

Whatever you choose to listen to, be sure it makes you feel good and charges your morning.

Tip 6

No Phone!

Turn off your phone notifications. If you’re worried about emergencies just flip your phone to do not disturb mode: the people who need you will still be able to reach you.

This tip is SUPER important.  waking up and tuning in to information feeds (news, social media etc.) can be destructive.  I like to think of my brain as a cell phone battery.  When I wake up in the morning, I’m on 100% charge. However, with every piece of information my brain has to process, my charge goes down.  I like to spend my fresh brain power on projects, and people that matter. This is easier to do when I start my morning off in an intentional mind space.

Tip 7

Read.

Choose to read something positive and encouraging Turn off the music and the phone and take a few minutes to soak your mind in words.

There is nothing like reading a good book. Especially one that you can gain knowledge from.  I personally like to read from a devotional or write in my journal.  Doing this while my thoughts are fresh helps me to have a clear perspective.  Whenever, I do these things, I start the day off from a place of yes.
